A new home for a color-loving couple in Downtown San Diego became a vibrant oasis by adding juicy details to the neutral bedroom. They had requested a design consultation for custom bedding and pillows, but once they showed me their inspiration art, abstract flowers in orange and turquoise, I knew the direction I want to go and recommended exploring the idea of designing a number of finishing touches rather than just new bedding.
The wall of shutters that covered their giant sliding door was cumbersome and ill fitting so I designed creamy drapes with a valance to do a better job of darkening their bedroom from bright city lights while allowing expansive views and lots of light during the day. It also provided a quiet contrast for the bed and juicy grasscloth Schumacher wallpaper we added behind the headboard. To pull it all together, I used a colorful fabric from Fabricut called Mod Flora in color Mango as the perfect accompaniment to the art pieces they loved. The coverlet was tailored to fit the mattress so as not to obscure the beautiful lines of the bed. The finishing touches were soft turquoise shams in crushed velvet and a purple lumbar pillow to complement the print fabric.
